A registered agent is not a virtual mailbox. We do not score mailbox suites, virtual offices, or Google Business Profile eligibility here. Connecticut wants a street and number, or another particular designation, on the business and residence lines. Live form BUS-09 says no P.O. Box on those streets. A P.O. Box is allowed only on the separate Connecticut mailing line. If you need scans of catalogs, that is a different product on a different site.
What Connecticut actually requires
A registered agent is the person or company who can be handed a lawsuit. Service of process means handing over those papers. The Secretary of the State keeps the list. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243n says each limited liability company keeps a registered agent in this state. Naming the agent affirms that the agent consented. A domestic company’s agent is a Connecticut resident, or a listed Connecticut or authorized foreign entity. The agent signs the appointment, unless the agent is the Secretary of the State. The agent must have a place of business here.
A street is a place a person can walk up to. A P.O. Box is a mailbox at the post office. An individual lists a business street and a Connecticut residence street. Form BUS-09 says no P.O. Box on those streets. A business agent’s Connecticut business street has the same ban. Every limited liability company also lists a Connecticut mailing address. A P.O. Box is acceptable on that mailing line only. Changing the agent is $50 for most entities and $20 for a nonstock corporation.
Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-247k is the yearly paper. It is filed after January first and before April first. The live fee table prices it at $80 and says January 1 to March 31. Filing it is not the job of taking the lawsuit. Whether that paper can change the agent is a live conflict. The sources disagree. This page does not pick one. If the company is more than one year late on the report, or has no registered agent, Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-267g lets the Secretary of the State send an email and wait three months, then file a dissolution by forfeiture. That forfeiture does not end the agent’s authority.

The Business Services Division page posts hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Those are the Secretary of the State’s hours, not a registered-office clock. The statute does not print a clock. Someone has to be at a Connecticut street to accept hand-delivered papers. A software login is not that street.
Full requirement and citations

Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243n is the Connecticut LLC registered-agent statute. Each limited liability company, and each registered foreign limited liability company, shall designate and maintain a registered agent in this state. The designation of a registered agent is an affirmation of fact that the agent has consented to serve as agent. A domestic company’s agent is a Connecticut resident, or a listed Connecticut or authorized foreign entity. A foreign company’s agent may also be the Secretary of the State and that office’s successors. The agent is appointed by filing a written appointment with the Secretary of the State. If the agent is a natural person, the filing lists the business and residence addresses. If the agent is an entity, it lists the principal office. In each case the address shall include the street and number or other particular designation. Each written appointment shall also be signed by, if other than the Secretary of the State, the registered agent therein appointed. A registered agent shall have a place of business in this state. The only duties under the LLC chapter of an agent that has complied are the duties in Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243n(f). That is the LLC sentence. We print it. This page keeps the full wording. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-247 is what the certificate of organization must say. It must name a registered agent appointed in compliance with § 34-243n, along with the street address and mailing address in this state of the company’s registered agent. That is the two-line split in the statute. The live domestic LLC forms and fees page prices Certificate of Organization, “including appointment of statutory agent,” at $120. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243u prices the same paper at one hundred twenty dollars. Those two numbers match. The fee table uses statutory agent. The statute uses registered agent. We print both. The live Change of Agent paper is form BUS-09, Rev. 1/2024. The face says Secretary of the State of Connecticut. For an individual agent it asks for a business address and a Connecticut residence address. Both lines say No P.O. Box. For a business agent it asks for a Connecticut business address and says No P.O. Box. Then it requires a Connecticut mailing address of registered agent for all LLCs and domestic stock corporations. That line says P.O. Box is acceptable. The instructions add that the entity may not appoint itself as its registered agent. The appointed agent must sign acceptance of appointment. The face prices the paper at $50, with a $20 exception for nonstock nonprofit corporations. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243o is how the company changes the line. The company files a change of address of agent certificate or a change of agent certificate. A new-agent certificate must be signed by the new agent, unless the agent is the Secretary of the State. A new designation is an affirmation of fact that the agent consented. The live Update Business Agent page, dated June 26, 2024, prices the same change at Non-Stock Corp. $20 and All Others $50. Those three sources match on the $50 / $20 pair.
The live Change of Agent’s Address paper is form BUS-003, Rev. 1/2024. It is not the paper that names a new agent. The business address line says P.O. Box is NOT acceptable. The Connecticut residence address line says P.O. Box is NOT acceptable. The Connecticut mailing address line, required for all LLCs and domestic stock corporations, says P.O. Box IS acceptable. That is the unique Connecticut split. We print it. This page keeps the full wording. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243q gives the agent thirty days to file a name or address change.
Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243p is how an agent steps down. The agent files a certificate of resignation. The certificate takes effect on the earlier of the thirty-first day after the day it is filed or the date a new registered agent is designated. The agent shall immediately furnish the company with notice of the filing date. The live LLC fee table prices Resignation of Agent at $50. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243u prices a notice of resignation at fifty dollars. Those two numbers match. ZenBusiness’s Connecticut page, last updated August 26, 2025, prints the same 31st-day end and the same $50 filing, with a $20 nonprofit and limited-partnership exception. Those vendor sentences match the statute and the table we retrieved. Northwest’s Connecticut page talks about a Statement of Resignation of Registered Agent sent to the Commercial Recording Division. We print the vendor name. The live office on the forms we opened is the Business Services Division at the Secretary of the State.
Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243r is how court papers are handed over. A company may be served by leaving a true and attested copy with the registered agent, or at that agent’s usual place of abode in this state. If the company ceases to have an agent, or the agent cannot with reasonable diligence be served, mail may go to the principal office shown on the most recent annual report. Service on the Secretary of the State as a foreign company’s agent is fifty dollars under Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243u.
Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-247k is the yearly Secretary of the State paper this page will not confuse with the agent job. A limited liability company shall deliver an annual report by electronic transmission. The report states the name of the company, the street and mailing addresses of its principal office, the name and address of the registered agent, and other required lines. The first report must be filed after January first and before April first of the year following the calendar year in which the company was formed. Later reports use that same January-to-April window. The live domestic LLC forms and fees page prices Annual Report at $80 and says it is filed online annually from January 1 to March 31. The domestic annual-report fees page prices the LLC annual report at $80. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-243u prices an annual report concerning any year on or after July 1, 2020 at eighty dollars. Those three numbers match. Bizee’s Connecticut page says the annual report is due by the last day of the anniversary month of formation. That is Bizee copy. An older Secretary of the State annual-report FAQ said LLC reports used the anniversary month before 2018, and then moved to January 1 through March 31. Whether that $80 paper can change the agent is a live conflict. We print the sources. The sources disagree. This page does not pick one. The older annual-report FAQ asked, “Can I change my registered agent on the annual report?” The answer was no. A separate change of agent must be filed, because the agent must accept appointment. The same FAQ said the registered-agent information and the business name cannot be changed on the annual report. The live Update Business Agent page, dated June 26, 2024, says you can also update agent info when you file your annual report. The live File Annual Report page lists registered-agent name, email, phone, business, residence, and mailing lines. The live Amend my Annual Report page, dated January 29, 2025, lists “Update a registered business agent” as one thing that page can do. The change forms already submitted page says some annual-report changes can be made within 30 days of the due date for an $80 filing fee, and then prices a separate Change of Agent at $20 / $50. Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-247k (g), added by P.A. 24-111 effective January 1, 2025, says if any required annual-report information except the company name changes, the company shall file an amended annual report. The filing fee for that amended report is twenty-five dollars. The knowledge-base page we opened still prints $80 for those thirty-day annual-report changes. We print $25 from the statute and $80 from the live article. The sources do not agree. This page does not add a third fee. Putting a new name on an $80 paper is still not the registered-agent job. The job is taking court papers at the Connecticut street.
Conn. Gen. Stat. § 34-267g is the missing-report and missing-agent clock. If a company is more than one year in default of its annual report, the Secretary of the State may send an electronic-mail notice. The company then has three months to file the report or the office files a certificate of dissolution by forfeiture. The same three-month email clock applies if the company has failed to maintain a registered agent for service. Dissolution by forfeiture does not terminate the authority of the registered agent. Stay without an agent, or miss the report for more than a year, and that is the path we opened. Bizee’s Connecticut page says Connecticut can administratively dissolve an LLC that does not have an active registered agent. We print the forfeiture statute we opened.
The public lookup sits at service.ct.gov/business/s/onlinebusinesssearch. Confirm the live line on the Business Records Search before you treat a marketing city as current. Who publishes a Connecticut street
A city is not a registered office. We print only the streets the companies publish for registered-agent use. The pages we read do not publish the rest. Confirm the live name and street on the Business Records Search before you file. Headquarters is not the registered office. The Secretary of the State’s Hartford contacts are not vendor suites.
- Northwest. The Connecticut product page says they accept and scan documents on-site at their registered office in Glastonbury, CT. The office-locations page lists Glastonbury, CT 06033 Hartford County, and does not print a street. No street is published. The two city lines match on Glastonbury. We have not been to a Glastonbury office. Northwest also sells extra mail scans from that location. Those extras are a different product.
- Bizee. Claims owned offices in all 50 states. The official registered-agent page names no Connecticut street. The live Connecticut product page names no Connecticut street. The hyphenated Connecticut URL we tried returned 404 on September 17, 2026. The contact page lists 17350 State Highway 249, Suite 220, Houston, TX 77064 as headquarters. That address is not a Connecticut registered-agent street.
- LegalZoom. The official registered-agent overview does not publish a Connecticut street. The live Connecticut article names no LegalZoom city or street. If you are your own registered agent, the street on the public record is often your home. If you hire a commercial registered agent, the agent line is that organization’s name. Northwest names Glastonbury on the product page and Glastonbury, CT 06033 Hartford County on the office list, and no street on either. LegalZoom publishes no Connecticut city. - Northwest: “We scan every document you receive right where you receive it—in our office.” The Connecticut page adds on-site scans at the Glastonbury office. Their extra mail-scan product is a different product. We do not grade those extras as a mailbox.

Their national product currently excludes PLLCs and nonprofits; that is their exclusion, not a Connecticut statute. Home-address privacy
A commercial registered agent is how most Connecticut owners keep a home off the agent line. The Secretary of the State still publishes whatever other addresses you put on a formation filing or an annual report. Privacy of the agent line is not privacy of every field. A Connecticut LLC must name an agent. It cannot leave that line blank. Confirm the live line on the Business Records Search.
